International Math Bee®
Founded in 2006 by Dr. S. David Vaillancourt, the International Math Bee® began as the National Math Bee®, a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to enhancing math skills among young learners. Today, IMB has evolved into a global educational platform, empowering students worldwide to excel in mathematics through interactive, game-based learning.
IMB has redefined educational engagement by integrating parents as active partners through BatterUp® 5G. The platform’s standout feature is its anonymous, real-time ranking system, which tracks student progress across classroom, school, state, national, and international levels. This innovative tool empowers students, parents, and teachers alike, fostering global collaboration and a shared commitment to building math proficiency and confidence.

A 35-Year Educator & Visionary Leader in Instructional Innovation
1986–1995
Dr. Vaillancourt began his distinguished career in education as a K–12 science teacher, instructing students in Earth/Space Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Computer Science.
1997–2006
He transitioned to higher education, serving as a college instructor for both undergraduate and graduate programs. His teaching focused on Instructional Technologies and Computer Networking Technologies, helping shape the digital capabilities of future educators and IT professionals.
2007–2020
Dr. Vaillancourt advanced into senior academic leadership, holding roles including Campus President, National Online Dean, Chief Academic Officer, and College President. He also served as a Collegiate Accreditation Evaluator, ensuring academic excellence and integrity across institutions.
He holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education from Samford University, and earned his Doctorate in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University in 2004.
Dr. Vaillancourt’s lifelong dedication to accessible, engaging, and rigorous education now informs the mission of the International Math Bee—to challenge young minds and celebrate mathematical excellence around the globe.
Emily K. Bowman
Executive Director: International Math Bee®
With over a decade of experience in education and edtech innovation, Emily Bowman has been a key collaborator alongside Dr. Vallaincourt in driving the growth and modernization of the International Math Bee® since 2013. As Executive Director, she leads the organization’s online programs, manages engagement with a thriving community of over 5,000 students and 1,000 parents, and oversees the strategic development of IMB’s educational technology platforms.
Emily has played an integral role in the development of BatterUp® 5G, IMB’s proprietary gamified training platform—soon to be released on iOS and Android. Her leadership spans program design, UX development, content creation, and user experience, ensuring that every IMB initiative aligns with the mission to make math education more engaging, inclusive, and dynamic.
Her background includes directing a private language academy in Spain, teaching English as a second language, and producing training materials for educators and parents. She also contributed to course development for the Tree Care Industry Association, demonstrating her versatility in educational content creation. Fluent in Spanish and highly skilled in communication, digital strategy, and curriculum design, Emily brings a global, hands-on approach to leadership.
In addition to her work in education, Emily is also a real estate professional based in Menorca, Spain. There, she applies her strengths in negotiation, strategy, and client service to support buyers and sellers through transparent and thoughtful property transactions.
Emily holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Political Science from York College of Pennsylvania.
